An ingenious material: BASF is the inventor of the extraordinarily versatile rigid foam EPS. Expanded polystyrene consists of a closed-cell polystyrene cellular structure, so is 2% polystyrene and 98% air. At Flatz we use EPS for packaging, decorative parts, craft supplies, technical moulded parts and for thermal insulation.
EPS can be manufactured using the biomass balance (BMB) method and helps to ensure that fossil fuels are preserved and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.
